Spigen Ultra Hybrid for iPhone 6 Review

So I was fairly confident about the authenticity of the leaked iPhone 6 models. So confident, that I picked up the Spigen Ultra Hybrid hours before the official keynote. After using this case for a little over a month, my impressions are positive.

The Spigen Ultra Hybrid is a combination of a rubbery but firm TPU bumper attached to a clear plastic back. I like this style of hybrid cases since you get the stylish clear look but with appropriate grip and drop protection. The ports are are appropriately cut and I had no issues plugging in various headphones and Lightning cables. The material has a nice finish and there no was extra plastic that you sometimes see on lower quality cases. (It's the reason why I really disliked the Poetic Atmosphere for the iPhone 6)

The small feet on the corners of the case help stop excessive scratches.

One of my favorite features is the small feet on the corners of the back side of the case. They're barely noticeable but do a great job of preventing the clear back from scratching as easy when you have the phone sitting on a table. A clear back is usually the biggest weakness in a case like this but after a few weeks of use, my Ultra Hybrid still looks pretty good.

The other feature of the case is SGP's "Air cushion" technology. On each corner of the case, SGP left a small air bubble in the TPU. It is designed to help with drops and any type of impact. Luckily, I haven't had to really test that out but it's a feature that other similar cases most likely will not have.

It started turning blue a week after I started using it.

My only complaint about the Ultra Hybrid is the bumper itself has begun discoloring. At this point in time, my case has developed a blue hue all over the TPU material. I have a hunch that it might be dye being rubbed onto the case whenever I put my phone into my jeans pocket. I've tried different ways of cleaning the case with no avail. It's not a deal breaker, but I'm disappointed that it is no longer "purely" clear.

The Ultra Hybrid is one of Amazon's first results when you search for an iPhone 6 case and for good reason. I recommend it if you're looking for a clear case that shows off your new iPhone but still provides good grip and protection. Knowing me, I'm going to try all sorts of cases throughout the year, but I think the Ultra Hybrid will be the old reliable that I will return to.
